Unbiased, which matches people and businesses with trusted professionals, hosted the inaugural Trusted Professional Awards on 26th November. The online event celebrated excellence among financial advisers, mortgage brokers and accountants, while highlighting the vital role of independent advice.
Awards went to professionals who have delivered the most exceptional customer experiences throughout the year. There were awards in each advice category, along with further gongs for innovation and consumer-focused journalism, plus a grand prize in the form of the Unbiased Excellence Award.
To ensure that the Trusted Professional Awards genuinely reflect consumer confidence, nominees were put forward by the advice clients themselves. Clients nominated advisers who have delivered more than expected, taken extra care of their interests, explained things very well, shown flexibility, developed a good rapport with them, or simply demonstrated good value for money.
Unbiased Excellence Award
Antony Cotchobos, Aurum Capital London
Antony received a particularly high number of nominations from his clients, one of whom was Olabisi. After some disappointing advice experiences in the past, Olabisi had turned to Unbiased to find an independent financial adviser, and ended up truly impressed. He especially praised Antony's clarity and transparency, appreciating the way the adviser presented multiple alternative options and explained the features of each one. Summing up his experience, he said, "With Antony, I always had the feeling he was working for me. A very positive, really professional experience."
Financial Adviser of the Year
Mary Hemingway, Truly Independent
Mary came to the rescue of Shaun, who feared he might have lost all the pension saved up in his SIPP. "She was really helpful. Without Mary, we would have been flat broke.’ says Shaun.
Mortgage Broker of the Year
Sheena Lalsingh, The Mortgage Clinic
Sam and his partner were looking for their first house. He says, "I wouldn't have known where to start without Sheena. She talked us through the whole process – even taking questions at 9pm!"
Accountant of the Year
Ian Marlow, HFM Tax & Accounts
Ian helped out Patrick following a significant life change, steering him through "a stressful maze of complex tax problems" to prevent big losses and deliver real peace of mind.
Exceptional Innovation Award
Thomas Skinner, Barnaby Cecil
Nominated by fellow professionals for his ingenious WealthMap tool, Thomas Skinner offers a new spin on financial planning that gets people genuinely enthused about their options while crafting personalised solutions.
