Over the last few years, many buyers flocked to Wales as the country experienced the strongest house price growth of any UK region or nation.

According to Halifax, this growth has stood at 29.3% since the start of 2020.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, many sought more spacious homes and a better quality of life.

In South Wales, the average property price is £265,500, higher than the average of £240,145 in North Wales over the last year.

Rightmove has crunched the numbers to find the most expensive areas to buy, based on data from May 2023.

Cardiff is frequently among the priciest places to buy in Wales, with Lisvane, a community in the north of Cardiff, topping the list as the average asking price is £636,895.

Lisvane is an affluent area with many open spaces and restaurants for families that is less than half an hour by train from Cardiff city centre.

Cowbridge

Cowbridge is the next most expensive area with average asking prices of £620,345.

It was named one of the best places to live in the UK by The Times in 2020, as it offers good shops and restaurants and isn’t far from Glamorgan’s Heritage Coast and Cardiff.

Abersoch

Abersoch is third on the list, with an average asking price of £531,319.

It was initially a fishing port but is now a popular seaside resort with a large sandy beach on the Llyn Peninsula. Abersoch regularly hosts family-friendly events, including an annual jazz festival.

Cyncoed

Cyncoed, in Cardiff, is also among the priciest areas to buy in Wales, with an average asking price of £494,916. It’s only a half-hour train ride away from Cardiff city centre.

It is an attractive area with beautiful views of Roath Park, which has a 30-acre lake. Cyncoed also has various shops, restaurants, and local schools and activities.

Radyr

Last on the list is Radyr, with an average asking price of £487,636. It’s also quite central as you can get to Cardiff city centre in only 20 minutes.

Radyr is near the River Taff that runs through the Forest Farm Country Park, within walking distance from the suburb.
