With an average fund size of £50k, MPI Financial has proven that you don’t always need to chase high value clients to reap rewards. Since starting its partnership with Unbiased just two years ago, MPI has successfully increased its adviser headcount fourfold with a return of 400% in the first year.

Ricky Edwards, who joined MPI Financial as Sales Director at its inception three years ago, spoke about his team’s winning strategy.

Specialising in Pensions, Protection and Investment, MPI Financial prides itself on delivering the best outcome for its clients, regardless of their wealth level.  

In three years, it has grown from a single adviser to a team of nine staff, four advisers and £35 million in assets under management, a growth that has been possible through its partnership with Unbiased.

When MPI first launched, it relied solely on introducers to feed leads to their one adviser.  

According to Ricky, they quickly realised this practice wasn’t working, and they needed to secure a reliable, sustainable and cost-effective lead provider if they wanted to grow the business. This was when they approached Unbiased.

It’s not always the high value leads that offer the greatest return

MPI joined Unbiased in January 2022 with just two locations. Within the first three months they doubled this to 4 locations, and by June they added a further 10 locations – making a total of 14 locations.

While a number of firms often shy away from clients with lower wealth levels, MPI Financial's winning strategy comes from seeing the benefit of accepting a higher volume of these types of enquiries.  

On average, they accept around 120 leads a month, with over 30% converting to paying clients.  

This successful approach has been a huge contributing factor to MPI Financial's rapid expansion.

As the team continued to see a great return on their investment, they increased their adviser headcount and, after the first year, scaled again from 14 to 80 locations.

Since then, there has been no turning back.
