I was about to retire and to receive a lump sum requiring sensible management over a medium to long term period (it didn't need to produce an annuity). He was listed on the Society of Late Life Advisors (SOLLA) website that had been recommended to me by Which?. He reviewed my current and likely future financial situation, including an ISA Equity portfolio I already held, examined my risk profile and delivered a prompt and clear report with well argued recommendations. Over the last year the medium risk platform he advised has yielded a reasonable return slightly ahead of expectations and he has also advised on and carried through the migration of my earlier ISA portfolio to a more appropriate platform. What could they have done better? His explanations and reports have always been prompt and clear and he has been patient with my lack of experience and sometimes repetitive questioning. My knowledge of investment options and platforms was not strong at the outset . Although the explanations and comparators in his reports were and are very clear and convincing, showing no sign of bias, in retrospect maybe I should have carried out more background reading myself. I didn't think of it at the time but it might have been useful if he could have recommended some places to look if available. Having said that I did get some good corroborative info from Which?
